So you just got yourself a new quartz banger and are ready to take some dabs! In this article we are going to discuss the reasons you need to be cleaning your quartz banger regularly (after every dab is best), how to clean your quartz banger regularly, and what to do if you have chazzed your quartz banger. Let’s dive right in on how to clean a quartz banger.

Why Cleaning Your Quartz Banger is Important

Cleaning Helps Your Quartz Banger Last Longer

It should be no surprise that if you do not take care of your quartz banger, it will not last as long as if you did take care of it. Over time, your banger can start to discolor. It can also lose its ability to hold heat long enough to fully vaporize your dab. Without proper care, your banger also runs the risk of cracking after extended use. Do yourself a favor and take care of your banger. It is not much work and will make your banger last 10x as long.

Clean Bangers Make Dabs Taste Better

You spend a good amount of money on your dabs, might as well get the best taste you can from them. This only comes from clean quartz bangers. A dirty banger can have residue that affects the flavor of your dabs. Cleaning after each dab can help to make sure you are getting the most from your dab experience.

How To Avoid Chazzing Your Quartz Banger

What is chazzing a banger? To chazz means you have discolored your quartz banger by repeatedly heating it up for a dab when it was not completely clean. The heat from your torch can burn any residue so that it oxidizes on your banger. This discolors the banger and affects how long it can hold heat. Following these tips can help you to avoid chazzing your quartz banger.

Quartz Quality Matters

Twenty dollar quartz bangers will not function as well or as longlasting as a better quality banger. Better quality means higher prices, but it is 100% worth the price tag. China-made quartz does not have the durability to last as long as american-made quartz. I

t also does not hold heat nearly as long so you may find yourself dabbing at higher temperatures to vaporize the entire dab. As we will discuss below, high temperature dabs are the leading cause of chazzing a banger. Do yourself a favor and invest in quality quartz. It will last longer, function better, and give you better taste from your dabs.

Low Temperature Dabbing

The temperature you dab at affects how much of your dab is vaporized, how it tastes, and the longevity of your quartz banger. The perfect dab is taken at about 400-600 ℉. In this temperature range, your dabs will have maximum flavor because you have not burned away terpenes. It will also be easier on your throat and lungs.

To reach this perfect temperature, some people time the cool down after heating up their banger. For Mayoral Quartz bangers, this cool down is about 1 minute. You can also use temperature readers like the Dab Rite Digital Thermometer to more accurately measure the temperature of your banger

Dabbing at high temperatures can burn some of the product onto your banger. This will be hard to remove without the use of a torch. Burning away residue can lead to an oxidized banger and that can affect how well it holds heat. You can always reheat your dabs to vaporize any leftovers. This is much preferred to taking hot dabs.

Cleaning After Every Dab

To avoid chazzing, it is important to clean your quartz banger after each and every dab. You might have heard “most dabs”, but we mean EVERY dab. Any residue left on your banger after a dab is then burned away when you go to heat your banger for the next dab. This can cause oxidation and discoloration which can affect how well your banger holds heat. Spend just a few seconds after every dab cleaning your banger and you will be able to successfully evade the ever-dreaded chazz.

Pro Tip: Never use bleach to clean your quartz banger. Also, whenever possible, try to avoid using the heat from your torch to clean the banger. This can expedite the chazz process.

Try Cold Starts

Cold starts, also known as reverse dabs, have become a popular dabbing technique used by many to retain flavor from your dabs and to avoid overheating. First, you place your dab and any accessories inside a room temperature quartz banger. Now place your carb cap onto the banger. Use your torch to heat the banger all around for about 10-20 seconds or until you see the dab begin to melt and lightly smoke.

Remember, you can always heat it up more so take it low and slow. Once you see the dab melt and smoke formed, you can go ahead and take that dab! This technique helps you to avoid taking dabs at high temperatures which helps you to avoid chazzing your banger.
